SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – The San Diego Chargers held quarterback Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts to three field goals in a 19-9 Chargers win Monday night. “It looks like the Colts were thinking that our next game is against the Denver Broncos,” John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew.
In a match-up of top quarterbacks this weekend, former Colt Peyton Manning will lead the Broncos into Indianapolis. “They forgot all about the San Diego Chargers. It was partly that, and the other part (was) I thought San Diego played very, very well,” said Madden.READ MORE: VIDEO: Smash-And-Grab Robbery At Tanforan Mall Jewelry Store
“When their defense is playing well and they have a running game, then they’re a good team.” he said. “When they get one-dimensional and they’re all offense and they’re all (quarterback) Philip Rivers and they’re all Philip Rivers throwing deep, then they really struggle.”
The Dodgers beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-0 in Los Angeles Monday night, winning their first game in the National League Championship series. Dodgers rookie outfielder Yasiel Puig, struggling in the first two games of the series and criticized by some for his emotional, undisciplined style, hit an RBI triple. Some fans thought it could have been an inside the park home run had Puig not celebrated it as a home run before it bounced off the wall. “You wonder when he’s going to change,” Madden said. “They always say, ‘young guy, he’ll learn…’ Can a guy like that ever change?”READ MORE: CA Drought: Big Sur 'Colorado' Fire Could Be Start Of Year-Round Wildfire Season
On the other hand, Madden said, “I like the talent, and if you have talent, you live with a lot of things.” The Cardinals lead the series 2-1.
