Possible Bird Strike Forces San Jose-To-Honolulu Flight To Land In Oakland

OAKLAND (CBS SF) - A passenger jet from San Jose bound for Honolulu had to make a precautionary landing at Oakland International Airport Wednesday morning following a possible bird strike, officials said.

The Alaska Airlines flight 837 took off from Mineta San Jose International Airport just before 8:30 a.m. when the flight crew reported a possible bird strike to one of the engines.

The plane, carrying 166 passengers and crew members, landed safely at Oakland International Airport around 9:00 a.m., according to an airport spokeswoman. No injuries were reported.

Fire crews and emergency personnel were standing by at the runway for the landing, said spokeswoman Kim Domerofski.

The plane took off for Honolulu just after 10:00 a.m.
