Teen Killed In Possible San Jose Gang Shooting

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- An 18-year-old man who was killed in a possible gang-related shooting in East San Jose on Saturday has been identified by police as Pedro Dado Cortez.

Police received a report at 4:22 p.m. Saturday of a person shot in the 800 block of Peter Pan Avenue, next to Capitol Park just east of Interstate Highway 680, San Jose police Sgt. Heather Randol said.

Cortez, a San Jose resident, was found suffering from at least one bullet wound and was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:30 p.m., Randol said.

No suspects have been apprehended, but an initial investigation indicates that Cortez's murder may have been gang-related, Randol said.

The killing was the 43rd homicide recorded in San Jose police jurisdiction so far this year, according to Randol.

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the homicide unit at (408) 277-5283. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers at (408) 947-7867, or visit www.tipsubmit.
