SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) — San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi has named former interim East Palo Alto police Chief Federico Rocha as his new undersheriff.

Mirkarimi called Rocha “an innovator.”
Rocha was named interim chief of the East Palo Alto police in November after Chief Ron Davis retired. Rocha joined the department in 2010.READ MORE: Breed: Free Rides As San Francisco Cable Cars Return In August For Test Runs
Before that he was a U.S. Marshal and manager for the law enforcement coordination unit for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Northern California. He was also an Oakland police officer.
Rocha could not be reached for comment Thursday.
