Suicidal Mom Stabs Her Child To Death At East Bay Park

LIVERMORE (CBS) -- A suicidal mother stabbed her child to death at a park near Livermore, Saturday afternoon.

Livermore police the 23-year-old woman on suspicion of murder. She is being held without bail.

Authorities said the woman killed the child after first trying to kill herself.

Alameda County Sheriff's deputies and East Bay Regional Park District police were inside Del Valle Regional Park where the stabbing happened. According to reports, the woman and the child went to the park alone. She killed the child near the Arroyo Dam, near the Vente Golf Course.

The 41,000-acre park is about 10 miles south of Livermore. Police said the park will remain open.

Police have not released the woman's name, or the age of her child. The exact weapon is also unknown.
