SF Zoo Welcomes Red Panda As Newest Resident

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) _ A 10-month-old red panda is the newest resident of the San Francisco Zoo.
Zoo spokeswoman Abigail Tuller said the small male panda native to the eastern Himalayas and western China arrived several weeks ago and will be installed in a new enclosure.

The panda's new home comes complete with a custom-made treehouse built by the crew from the Animal Planet show "Treehouse Masters."

The exhibit will open to the public on May 10. The panda's name will be announced next week. Philanthropists Barry and Marie Lipman donated $31,000 to name the mammal.

Red pandas, known for their distinctive bushy tail and pointy ears, generally aren't much bigger than a domestic house cat _ about two feet long and between 8 and 12 pounds.
