Man Suspect In Death Of Foster Daughter Could Face Murder Charges

STOCKTON (CBS/AP) -- Police in Stockton were considering bringing homicide charges against a 37-year-old man following the death of his infant foster daughter.

Paul Teldeschi has been jailed since last month on multiple child abuse charges involving the 11-month-old girl he and his wife started caring for in December.

The child was hospitalized on March 30 with broken ribs, a broken clavicle and a brain injury that doctors at Children's Hospital Oakland attributed to violent shaking.

Stockton police spokesman Joe Silva says the baby died this week and that detectives are awaiting autopsy results before deciding on additional charges.

Teldeschi is being held on $1.2 million bail. He has not yet entered a plea. A call to his defense lawyer was not immediately returned Saturday.
