SANTA CLARA (CBS-SF) — The San Francisco 49ers have announced variable pricing for single-game tickets for the 2014 NFL season at their new Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.

According to the team, individual ticket prices will vary based on one of three categories: Preseason, Prime, and Marquee.

The variable pricing model will charge more for the most sought-after games, with season ticket holders – who have paid for a seat license ranging from $2,000 to $80,000 – charged at a lower rate than individual ticket buyers.

This is the first season that NFL teams have instituted variable ticket pricing for their most-desired games. At least seven other teams – Buffalo, Detroit, Kansas City, Miami, New England, Seattle and St. Louis – have begun variable pricing which has been common in other major sports leagues for years.

Tickets for the two preseason games against the Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers range from $43 to $187, depending on seat location.

The Prime tickets for four regular season games (vs. Arizona, St. Louis, San Diego and Washington) will range from from $110 to $475, $85 to $375 for season ticket holders.

Levi’s Stadium’s first official sporting event is the San Jose Earthquakes versus the Seattle Sounders FC on August 2, 2014, at 3:00pm.
