Masked Gunman Flees Scene After Shooting Two In Walnut Creek

WALNUT CREEK (CBS SF) — Police are looking for the gunman who shot two people in a car after a concert at the Concord Pavilion.

Police responded around 7:51 p.m. to Ygnacio Valley and Oak Grove roads after receiving numerous reports of shots fired into a car.

Witnesses told investigators two vehicles were driving west on Ygnacio Valley Road and approaching the red light at Oak Grove Road when the suspect's vehicle pulled up next to the victim, and the suspect fired several shots into the victim's front passenger window.

Police said the suspect then exited the vehicle and fired several more shots into the victim's vehicle, hitting the driver and a passenger.

The victims were an adult male and an adult female, but their identities have not been released.

"To have a shooting like that in Walnut Creek is extremely unusual," Sgt. Joe Donleavy said.

The victims were taken to a local hospital. One is still in critical condition, and the other was treated and released.

The suspect, identified as a black male in his early 20s and about 6 feet tall, fled the area in a light colored four-door sedan, according to police. He was wearing a black mask, T-shirt and jeans.

Police said a semi-automatic handgun was used in the shooting.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Walnut Creek Police Department at (925) 943-5844.
