Medical Marijuana Delivery Service Hits Streets Of Bay Area
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- It's being hailed as the 'Uber' of medical marijuana.
It's called Eaze, and it's a new service that lets patients order medical marijuana via their smartphone, and schedule a home delivery, in most cases, within 10 minutes.
The service eliminates the time-consuming search for a dispensary, and even verifies the patient's medical marijuana eligibility in just a few seconds.
"Eaze's technology automates all of that so each patient can have a consistent, comfortable experience — and can focus on getting better," said Keith McCarty, founder and CEO of Eaze.
Once the patient places an order, Eaze dispatches a professional caregiver to hand deliver the medicine to the patient's home. Like Uber, the patient can track the speed of the driver, or, the delivery in real time.
McCarty works from his home in San Francisco, and is funding Eaze all by himself. He was an early executive who helped create Yammer, a technology company acquired by Microsoft for $1.2 billion in 2012.
Ease is not a medical marijuana dispensary. It's a network of "caregivers" who go to the dispensary and pick up the order for the patient. The Ease website offers "caregivers" an opportunity to earn $45/hour and set their own schedule.
So far, Eaze is offered only in San Francisco, but the company plans to expand quickly to Southern California and Colorado and Washington. Eventually, Eaze will be available in the remaining 20 states where medical marijuana is now legal.
