Raiders Reportedly Surveying Fan Interest On Move To San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO (CBS SF) - The Raiders are apparently serious enough about the idea of moving to San Antonio that they've begun surveying people in that city to see if football fans would like to see the Silver & Black play home games in the Alamodome, according to San Antonio news radio station WOAI.
"The survey asks questions like 'would you support the Oakland Raiders if they moved to San Antonio,' 'Would you buy tickets to the game if the price were...and then listed several possible prices for game tickets,' and 'would you buy a lower level season ticket for $1,500,'" reports the station.
The survey was sent to members of the Alamo Dome mailing list, but the cost of the $50,000 campaign was split between the City of San Antonio and the Raiders, according to the station.
News of the courtship between San Antonio and the Raiders first broke in July, when the team confirmed that owner Mark Davis and other Raider officials met with city representatives to discuss opportunities there. At the time, there had been rumors that a lease extension for the Oakland Athletics could expedite the departure of Raiders. The baseball club reached a new deal in August after about a year of negotiations.
The survey is the first indication that the Raiders may still be considering a move. The Raiders and A's are the last NFL and MLB teams to share a stadium. The O.Co Coliseum is considered perhaps the most outdated facility in either league.
Speculation has also swirled for years that the Raiders are the most likely team to file the nearly two decade long NFL vacancy in Los Angeles, the nation's second largest television market.
For it's part, Oakland has been moving forward with plans to create a "Coliseum City" which would accommodate venues for the Raiders, A's and Warriors.
