BAY POINT (CBS SF) —  A 12-year-old Bay Point shooting victim remains in “seriously critical” condition as police continue to search for a suspect, the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of shots fired in the 1000 block of Weldon Street in Bay Point at 8:53 p.m. on Wednesday. Deputies found a 12-year-old in front of an apartment with gunshot wounds.

The child was flown to the University of California at San Francisco’s Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland. As of Thursday morning, the hospital described his condition as “seriously critical.”

Sheriff’s deputies and Pittsburg police searched the area last night but located no suspects. Officials said no suspects have been identified and detectives are still trying to establish a motive.

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information related to the shooting to call the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff’s investigative division: (925) 313-2600.
