5 Things The San Francisco Giants Still Haven't Accomplished

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - The San Francisco Giants - Kansas City Royals World Series is billed as a team of destiny versus a bid for a dynasty.  For lifetime Giants fans used to decades of disappointment, it's hard to see this team keeping it up every year (or every other year). But what if the Giants win the series? And what if they keep on winning them?  At some point we are going to have to call them a dynasty, and even the most fatalist Giants fan will have to revise expectations upward. What will they root for? Here's a partial to-do list. We'd love to have your additions in the comments below.

1 - Gotten Even For The 1989 World Series
For a time this year, it looked like we might celebrate the silver anniversary of the Bay Bridge Series with a rematch, but the Royals went and mucked everything up in the Wild Card round. As a result, A's fans will continue to hold out the 1989 series as evidence that baseball bragging rights reside in the East Bay, no matter how many titles the Giants rack up.

2 - Landed Barry Bonds In The Hall Of Fame
The Giants franchise already has the most Hall of Fame members of any team, but there is one very notable absence. The unquestioned best hitter of the Steroid Era is also the player most associated with doping in Major League Baseball. There have been millions of words devoted to his Hall of Fame candidacy, but can we all agree that if anyone from the doping era deserves a trip to Cooperstown it's the greatest home run hitter of a generation?

3-  Made The Most World Series Appearances
The Giants have now made the second most World Series appearances in the league at 20, but they'll need to double that just to get even with the Yankees for total pennants. The Bronx Bombers have lapped the field (and have a comfy lead in total titles as well). Tell your great grandchildren to check this one off the list for you when we get there.

4 - Won More Titles In California Than The Dodgers
The Giants have passed their foes from the south in total franchise titles, thanks in large part to a Dodger drought to make California proud, but the boys in blue still have more championships since the two teams moved west in 1957 at 5-2. A win this year will get the Orange and black closer closer, but we'll have to keep up this every other year championship trend through 2020 to take the lead in California titles.

5 - Won A World Series In San Francisco
After and epic wait following the move West, the Giants are just four wins from a third title in five years. But while the team has won championships FOR San Francisco, they've never one one IN San Francisco. They celebrated in Arlington in 2010 and Detroit in 2012. If the 2014 team wants to stamp itself in Giants lore, there is no surer way than pulling off the first championship celebration at AT&T Park.
