BART Surveys Riders; Asks Input On Potential Station Remodels

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— BART asked its riders Tuesday morning about plans to modernize two of its busiest stations as part of a new survey. Riders at Embarcadero Station were asked for their feedback and input with hopes of taking the transportation agency well into the 21st century.

The 18-month study will look at things like lighting, finishes and signage, but riders had their own concerns; mostly saying the station was too crowded, often times filthy

One rider said she needed more space to park her bicycle so she could be out of her car as much as possible. Others would like to see the installation (re-installations in some cases) of public restrooms.

BART planner Duncan Watry said these opinions will help their growth and modernization plans.

"We're asking people a variety of questions, hoping to get their input," he said.

BART moves more than 400,000 riders each weekday. The survey of questions is available online in English, Spanish and in Chinese.

The survey continues Thursday at the Montgomery Station.
