SALINAS (CBS SF) — A 20-year-old man was detained Friday in connection with a crime spree that included a fatal shooting, a second shooting and an armed robbery in parts of Monterey County, according to the sheriff’s office.

The man, whose identity has not been released to the public, is considered the suspect in a shooting reported at 7:07 a.m. Friday at Creekside Terrace and Old Reservation Road in an unincorporated area a few miles southwest of Salinas, sheriff’s deputies said.

The victim, whose name and sex were not released, died of injuries suffered from the gunfire, according to deputies.

About 45 minutes later, a second shooting occurred on Del Monte Road in the unincorporated area of Castroville where a man was wounded and taken to a hospital with injuries that are not considered life threatening, deputies said.

An armed robbery occurred in the same area a short time later with no reported injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

The suspect was located and detained. Investigators believe the same suspect was responsible for all three crimes, according to deputies.
