Amid Rumors Of His Departure For Wolverines, Jim Harbaugh Becomes Write-In For Michigan Governor
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - 49ers legend Jerry Rice and others have recently said they think Jim Harbaugh's tenure with the 49ers will be over at season's end, no matter how far the team goes. Where will he find his next gig? If the voters of Michigan have anything to say about it, the former University of Michigan quarterback will be taking up residence in the statehouse.
At least one voter cast his write-in selection for Harbaugh during Tuesday's midterm election:
Short of the Governor's office, many in the state of Michigan are hoping Harbaugh will return to guide the once-proud Michigan Football Team. Michigan's head coaching job is considered one of the top posts in college football. The team is currently suffering one of its worst seasons in recent memory, and many in Michigan see the former 4-year letterman as the right man to turn the program around.
Harbaugh is in his fourth year as the 49ers head coach, and has taken the team to the NFC Championship game each year in San Francisco. Still, rumors have swirled that tension exists between him, his players and members of the front office. Former players Deion Sanders and Jerry Rice, among others, have recently suggested that the writing on the wall points to Harbaugh leaving after the season.
49ers CEO Jed York has publicly said Harbaugh isn't going anywhere, but a 4-4 record half way through the 2014 season has some fans demanding a referendum on his job with the team:
Harbaugh is in the fourth year of a 5-year contract and multiple outlets reported this past offseason that extension talks between Harbaugh and the team have stalled.
