SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – If one day of spring training is any indication, the media spotlight surrounding Pablo Sandoval in Boston is going to be intense. A photo of him taking grounders on his first day of Red Sox spring training set off thousands of tweets overnight. And some of them weren’t all that nice:

There were, however, an equal number of people demanding that fans lay off the three-time World Series champ and wait to see how he plays before criticizing.

Pablo Sandoval’s weight was an issue in San Francisco, that’s why the team reportedly never offered him a long-term deal before the 2014 season. But now, after signing a $95 million contract, some are sure to feel like it’s open season to poke fun at “The Panda.”
