Batkid Documentary Movie Takes San Jose's Cinequest Film Festival By Storm

SAN JOSE (KCBS)— Filmmakers from around the world will be in San Jose for the next two weeks to showcase their efforts at the 25th Annual Cinequest Film Festival. The festival kicks off Tuesday with Batkid Begins— a local story whose climax we're all pretty familiar with.

More than 100,000 film buffs from around the world are expected to fill downtown San Jose and more than 200 films will be screened. But Batkid's story is a documentary about a young cancer survivor, Miles Scott, whose wish to be Batkid led to the transformation of San Francisco for a day into Gotham city in November 2013.

In a scene from the film, a woman says, "It was like Brad Pitt had just walked out. It was like, 'Oh my god, there he is!"

"That was such an incredible experience. This is the story of his life, that day. What it did to him and what it did really for the a nation and the world that tuned into to that experience," said Cinequest's co-founder Halfdun Hussy.

He said the festival has evolved into much more than he ever imagined.

"Seeing it grow from 3,000 to over 100,000 attendees, 50 different countries represented, 91 United States world premieres this year. It's really exciting," he said.

The festival runs through closing night on March 8th.
