6-Year-Old Girl Seriously Injured After Struck By Car In Santa Rosa

SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) -- A 6-year-old girl is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a vehicle hit her as she was crossing the street with her family in Santa Rosa Sunday, Santa Rosa police said.

Officers responded to the collision at Petaluma Hill Road and Breeze Way at 9:24 p.m. and found the child lying in the northbound lane of Petaluma Hill Road, according to police.

Officers discovered that the child was walking east across the road in the crosswalk with her family when a 2001 Ford Focus hit the child, police said. The Ford Focus was traveling north on Petaluma Hill Road, according to police.

The driver of the Ford Focus, 67-year-old Santa Rosa resident Stephen Barbieri, immediately pulled over and is cooperating with the investigation, police said.
