'Brolympics' Blamed For This Weekend's Excessive Trash At San Francisco's Fort Mason
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— The good, the bad and the ugly were on display at the meadow at Fort Mason this weekend. The Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) said plenty of trash was left behind following a non-permitted event.
Alexandra Pickavet with the GGNRA said the mess left behind at Fort Mason on Saturday was sad and included trash, vomit, food, coolers, tables, and even hibachi grills.
Fortunately, neighbors pitched in to clean up the mess.
"This was a larger mess than we've seen here left on 4th of July weekend," Pickavet said. She added that there is an open investigation into the non-permitted event. "[It was called] the Brolympics and it was associated with the Mr. Marina competition, [a fundraiser event for cancer research]."
A lone maintenance man tried to pick up the mess, but he did get some help in picking up more than 100 bags of trash.
"One man, Tim, started at 6 a.m. and was here for hours, well past noon. He sadly had his basketball taken while he was cleaning," she said.
Pickavet got a little sassy on Twitter, posting a caption with a picture of the damage and chastised the responsible group of people for assuming someone else would clean up after their mess and the cost involved.
She said all the help with the cleanup restored her faith in humanity.
