Santa Rosa Man's Neck Broken In Unprovoked Attack In Rohnert Park

ROHNERT PARK (KPIX) -- A Santa Rosa man has been hospitalized after his family said he was attacked for no reason. Authorities said the victim's wallet and cellphone were not taken.

Rocky Martin of Santa Rosa says his son Adam has a broken neck and it could get worse.

"According to the neurosurgeon, if he turns to quick or moves his head the wrong way he could ... pop his back or pop his spine and he could be paralyzed from the neck down," Martin said.

On Monday afternoon, Adam was alone in his Jeep Cherokee. He had just finished riding his brand new dirt bike and had it on a trailer behind his Jeep when he pulled into a convenience store parking lot on Snyder Lane in Rohnert Park.

Someone attacked him.

"One of the witnesses according to the police department said he was being kicked in the head a bunch," Rocky Martin says.

Investigators still don't know what sparked the beating. Was there an argument or a fight? Or was Adam randomly attacked?

Witnesses tell police two carloads of men drove away after the beating. Investigators say Adam is so badly hurt, he hasn't been able to remember what happened. The only clue is a barely-legible text he sent on the way to the hospital.

Police and Adam Martin's family believe there are more witnesses out there and they hope someone will come forward and help solve the case.
