BERKELEY (KCBS) — Businesses and residents in Berkeley’s Elmwood shopping district are celebrating a successful end to a desperate search for a dog that was stolen from his bed outside a popular hair salon.
‘Wynder’ is no ordinary animal. Everyone from the kids to the local police know the Yorkie-Pomeranian mix as the official greeter of the neighborhood.READ MORE: Mistrial In Manslaughter Case Against Danville Deputy Andrew Hall Over Laudemer Arboleda Killing; Guilty Verdict For Gun Assault
But on Wednesday, Wynder was snatched from the Anton Salon on College Avenue and Russell Street. The 10-pound dog, with tan and black silky hair, would lay on its bed outside the salon everyday, greeting everyone who passed by.
Sean Berry, Wynder’s owner is a hair stylist at the salon. He had to hold back his tears as he talked about his pet Thursday.
“Wynder is the sweetest dog ever, he lays on the sidewalk… people pet him. He looks straight into your eyes and just — he melts your heart.”READ MORE: Lake Tahoe Boat Inspectors Find Record Number Of Vessels With Invasive Mussels
KPIX 5 learned Thursday afternoon that the dog had been found and was due to be returned to Berry within hours.
Wynder went missing around 4:15 p.m., on Wednesday. A man described as Asian, driving a black Toyota Camry with tinted windows, snatched Wynder from his bed in front of the salon. He put him in his car parked at a 7-Eleven just across the street.
“The 7-Eleven has a surveillance (camera) that showed the man’s face, carrying the dog, and they showed the vehicle, but it doesn’t show the vehicle license plate,” said Berry.
Since then, nearby area businesses had been passing out flyers and asking if anybody has spotted the doggie.MORE NEWS: UPDATE: Pleasant Hill In-N-Out Burger Shut Down for Repeatedly Defying COVID Health Order
