Weekend Magazine: Admissions Mania, East Bay Gives, And Radical Underground

You can listen to the broadcast of Weekend Magazine with KCBS Public Affairs Director Liz Saint John every Sunday morning from 3:00am-4:00am and again from 5:00am-6:00am on KCBS All News 740 AM and 106.9 FM.

Liz Saint John interviews three guests every Sunday morning covering a variety of issues and topics. She talks with representatives from Bay Area non-profit organizations, documentary filmmakers, authors, and professors.

1. New York Times Op-ed columnist Frank Bruni takes on the college admissions craziness that many high schoolers and their parents experience and offers some soothing words and advice in his new book Where You Go Is Not Who You'll Be: An Antidote to the College Admissions Mania. Through stories and interviews with many super-successful people, Bruni shows how there are many different paths to success other than through the Ivies and Stanford. Listen to the podcast here.

2. Dawn Robinson of East Bay Community Foundation talks about how her organization helps hundreds of local nonprofits continue their work and explains what happens during East Bay Gives, the 24-hour online event on May 5th. Other Community Foundations in the Bay Area and across the country also participate in the one day event that raises funds for local nonprofits. Listen to the podcast here.

3. Days of Rage: America's Radical Underground, The FBI, and the Forgotten Age of Revolutionary Violence tells the story of the six major underground groups of the 1970's and early 1980's. Vanity Fair special correspondent Bryan Burrough landed interviews with some of the participants of "revolutionary violence" who speak on the record for the first time. Listen to the podcast here.
