Man On Bicycle Fatally Struck By Vehicle In Sunnyvale

SUNNYVALE (KCBS)-- A bicyclist was fatally struck by a vehicle in Sunnyvale Monday morning, during the busy Silicon Valley commute public safety officials said.

The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety reported at 8:20 a.m. that the collision occurred at West Fremont and South Mary avenues. The male cyclist's body lay at the intersection with his bike and helmet not too far away.

Public safety officials said the incident did not involve any students from nearby schools.

The collision, which happened around 7:00 a.m. was captured on a surveillance video at a nearby Chevron Station. The gas station manager said watching the impact was absolutely horrible.

Kevin Gregory, a cyclist who spoke to KCBS said Sunnyvale is normally a "bike-friendly city".

"I feel for him, I can understand the moments where things get a little dicey out there when somebody does something unexpected. Maybe you made a bad decision yourself?" said Gregory.

The driver of the vehicle did stop and is cooperating with the investigation, according to police.
