SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – There are major delays on Bay Area Rapid Transit systemwide, after a deformity was discovered in the trackway between the Civic Center station and 16th Street station in San Francisco.

BART officials confirmed that they have restored full service through San Francisco as of 4 p.m. but long delays and huge backups persist on the system as the Giants game lets out at AT&T Park.

BART officials said the problem was discovered shortly after 9:30 a.m.

“This deformity will require repairs. This repair job is estimated to take 5-6 hours and will likely bleed into the evening commute,” said BART spokesperson Alicia Trost, as of 10:45 a.m.

Trains were only being allowed to single-track in San Francisco and service was extremely limited from the East Bay.

Here is a look at the track inspections being done on Wednesday afternoon:

The crack was discovered after earlier problems in the East Bay Wednesday. A power outage also knocked out afternoon service near the Bay Fair station after a balloon hit a line in the area.  All of the down time had people on Twitter using the #BARTpocalypse tag.

San Francisco Municipal Railway and Alameda-Contra Costa Transit were honoring BART tickets Wednesday.
