SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — Nintendo confirmed that the new Fire Emblem role-playing games will introduce same-sex marriage to players.

“We can confirm that Fire Emblem Fates for Nintendo 3DS, which launches in Japan on June 25, 2015, and is coming to the U.S. and Europe in 2016, includes the possibility for a same-sex marriage to take place,” Nintendo told Polygon.

The game comes in two different versions, the Conquest and Birthright editions.  The Conquest edition will feature a male character that can eventually marry another male character, while the Birthright edition features a female character that can eventually marry another female character.

Nintendo had been criticized in the past for excluding same-sex relationships from the Tomodachi Life game.
