Mountain Lion Roams Close To Busy Daly City Mall

DALY CITY (CBS SF) -- The latest Bay Area mountain lion sighting happened at a rather unusual place in Daly City.

A Daly City police officer spotted the adult mountain lion last week crossing Callan Blvd. just up the hill from Serramonte Mall.

Fish and Wildlife officials came out later to try and find it but by then it had disappeared.

One man who lives nearby says he's not afraid of the cougar.

"I look at it like family," "Ruce Head said. "We leave their family alone. They'll leave us alone."

Experts say while mountain lion sightings are common, attacks are rare.

If you come face to face with one, don't run. Instead, make noise and wave your arms to make yourself seem bigger.
