Pit Bull Shot By SF Police Expected To Recover

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A dog shot during a confrontation with San Francisco Police is expected to recover from its injuries.

The incident happened Monday near Fulton and Hyde streets.

Police say they noticed the pit bull's owner had some sort of drug paraphernalia on him, but when they tried to stop the man, the dog became aggressive.

"That dog then charged toward the officers," said Officer Carlos Manfredi. "The officers tactically retreated and discharged approximately two to three rounds at the dog, striking the dog one time."

The dog was taken to animal control. Police released the owner who will be cited for allowing the dog to run free.
