Warriors Unveil Animated Video Tour Of Proposed San Francisco Arena
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- The Golden State Warriors have released the first animated video of their planned San Francisco Mission Bay arena which the team hopes to move into within three years.
The video, unveiled at the Dreamforce Conference in San Francisco Tuesday, takes a wide, aerial view of the arena, zooming in on the stadium entrance, past dining areas and plazas before entering the 18,000 seat, glass-enclosed arena with a 360 degree view.
The privately-funded $1 billion project will not only be a venue for basketball, but will also include retail space, an office tower and a waterfront park in addition to hosting a range of special events and concerts throughout the year.
Warriors CEO Rick Welts said the Warriors hope to break ground on the 12 acre project in early 2016 with plans for the arena to be ready for the 2018-19 NBA season -- assuming the plan clears hurdles from opponents.
A group called Mission Bay Alliance, which includes supporters of UC San Francisco, raised concerns in April about arena traffic and parking hindering hospital services.
Oakland city officials are also hoping to keep the NBA Champions in town, but Mayor Libby Schaaf has made it clear she won't spend public funds on a pro sports arena.
An investor group has laid out a development plan for the Oakland Coliseum complex site which includes the Warriors current Oracle Arena home. The group says it hopes to retain all three Oakland sports teams with new facilities in a massive new development dubbed "Coliseum City."
