SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) — Fans of the Grateful Dead have organized a petition to get the band to play during halftime at Super Bowl 50 in Santa Clara next year.

“To commemorate 50 years of SuperBowl history, what better group of musical engineers to set precedence during such an occasion, who are also celebrating 50 years of historical excellence, than the remaining members of The Grateful Dead!” the petition posted by Douglas Machado reads.

The Grateful Dead wrapped up their Fare Thee Well tour earlier this year, which was to be their last set of shows.  However, the band recently announced that they would tour again with John Mayer under the name Dead & Company.

The petition had gathered just over 6,300 signatures by Thursday evening.
