Student Arrested For Fight In San Francisco City College Library

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A student was arrested Wednesday in connection with a fight among three students, one of them armed with a gun, in a San Francisco City College library on Tuesday afternoon, a City College spokesman said.

The man arrested Wednesday was identified as 21-year-old Randy Taylor Jr. Taylor is not believed to be the man with the gun, but authorities know who that man is and are actively looking for him, City College spokesman Jeff Hamilton said.

Taylor and the other man approached the victim, a 17-year-old City College student, in a plaza near the Rosenberg Library on the college's Ocean Campus shortly after 11 a.m., Hamilton said.

They told the victim to come with them and the second suspect, a former student, pulled up his shirt and revealed he was armed. As they were walking away, the victim made a break for it and ran into the library.

The suspects chased him inside, caught up with him and started hitting him. Others in the library came to his aid and he ran to another part of the library and locked the door, Hamilton said.

It seems that as the victim fled, he called out that one of the men had a gun, creating some alarm in the library, Hamilton said. No shots were fired and one was injured.

The suspects fled before police arrived but the library was briefly evacuated as a precaution. The victim was not taken to a hospital but lost his backpack in the fight, Hamilton said.

Taylor was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of robbery, assault, kidnapping and false imprisonment and booked into jail at $500,000 bail, according to jail records.
