(CBS SPORTS) – The Pirates have signed veteran right-hander Ryan Vogelsong to a one-year contract, the team has announced. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Vogelsong, 38, figures to join Gerrit Cole, Francisco Liriano, Jonathon Niese and Jeff Locke in Pittsburgh’s rotation. Top prospects Jameson Taillon and Tyler Glasnow may arrive at some point in 2016.
Following a three-year stint in Japan, Vogelsong has spent the last five years with the Giants, going 48-46 with a 3.89 ERA (91 ERA+) overall. He went 9-11 with a 4.67 ERA (81 ERA+) in 135 innings across 22 starts and 11 relief appearances in 2015.
