Protesters Block Shuttles In San Francisco As City Looks To Extend Bus Program
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – Protesters showed up at 24th and Valencia Streets in San Francisco's Mission neighborhood Tuesday morning to block so-called "tech buses."
The protest lasted for about 40 minutes before police cleared the intersection and opened it back up to traffic.
Tuesday morning's demonstration comes one day after three San Francisco supervisors and four major tech companies reached an agreement about the operation of these buses.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the cornerstone of this deal calls for allowing these buses to keep operating as they've been doing for one more year, before facing a major overhaul of the whole program.
The agreement caps the number of corporate bus stops at 125, that's how many are now in use. If the number of buses that stop at each location goes up by 50 percent or more, there would be a mandatory assessment of air quality.
The full board could vote on the agreement later this month.
