Apple 'Spaceship' Campus Expected To Open Early Next Year

CUPERTINO (CBS SF) – Apple employees are expected to move into a massive new office space in Cupertino nicknamed the "Spaceship campus" in early 2017.

According to Ian Sherr of CNET, the tech giant announced construction of Apple Campus 2 is on schedule.

Employees are expected to begin working at the new offices starting in January.

Dubbed the "spaceship" for its circular look, the campus near Wolfe Road and Interstate 280 has been under construction since late 2013. Once complete, Campus 2 will have more than 2.8 million square feet of office space and house about 14,000 employees.

The company's building spree in Silicon Valley is not over with completion of Campus 2. Last month, Apple received approval from San Jose city leaders to build another massive office complex on 86 acres in North San Jose.

Apple has been approved to build up to 4.15 million square feet of office space near Highways 101 and 87. Up to 20,000 employees could work at the San Jose complex.

Along with building new offices, Apple is leasing a 778,000 square foot office complex called "Not Another Box" on Wolfe Road in Sunnyvale.
