Escaped Chimp Recaptured After Breaking Out Of Zoo In Japan

SENDAI CITY (CBS SF) -- A chimpanzee named "Chacha" escaped from a zoo in northern Japan Thursday afternoon, but his sweet taste of freedom didn't last long.

After breaking out of the Yagiyama Zoological Park in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, Chacha was spotted hanging out on some utility poles, yawning and clambering around on the wires.

Workers later shot Chacha with a tranquilizer gun. He tried to resist, but eventually succumbed to the tranquilizer and fell from the utility pole he was perched on.

Rescuers caught him and took him back to the zoo.

Officials were unsure how the chimp escaped.
