The officer wasn’t hurt but it led to a lengthy standoff.

Police said the man was holed up with even more explosives inside a home in the 4000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The area was cordoned off and some residents were evacuated.

Police, SWAT teams, the FBI and ATF negotiated for hours with the man before he finally surrendered.

“The original pipe bomb was actually thrown at officers and then there was a secondary one,” said Sacramento police spokesperson Traci Trapani. “We haven’t really confirmed if it was detonated prior to officers arriving on scene, or afterward.”

Several people were inside the home where the man was barricaded. They got out okay, and may have known the suspect.
