In 'Slowest Pursuit Ever,' CHP Officers Save Geese Along I-80 In Berkeley

BERKELEY (CBS SF) – Officers with the California Highway Patrol guided a gaggle of baby geese to safety after they were spotted on Interstate 80 in Berkeley over the weekend.

A video posted on the CHP Oakland Facebook page showed a CHP SUV trailing the geese on the Eastshore Freeway near Ashby Avenue early Sunday morning. The agency described it as the "slowest pursuit ever."

Our slowest pursuit ever.... Some felonious fowl (baby geese in this case) tried crossing I-80 near Ashby Ave in Berkeley this morning. After a nail biting pursuit, they were eventually channeled back into the bay, leaving nothing but a traffic jam in their wake.

Traffic was backed up through the area as they guided the geese off the freeway.

CHP officers have rescued baby geese on Bay Area freeways at least two other times in the last two months. On April 25th, a CHP officer found a flock of baby geese that wandered along Interstate 80 in Albany during the afternoon commute and reunited the birds with their family.

Also last month, another officer rescued a gaggle of baby geese separated from their mother along Highway 101 in Santa Rosa.
