Mars Makes Closest Encounter With Earth In 11 Years

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) -- Get out your telescopes. There's a close encounter on Monday.

The planet Mars is making its nearest approach to Earth in eleven years.

The Red Planet will cruise by at about 5:34 p.m., and while it's the closest approach in awhile, it will still be 46.8 million miles away.

If you happen to miss it today, you can still get a good view over the next two weeks.
