Burning Man Pays $6.5 Million For Fly Ranch, Site Of Man-Made Geyser

RENO (CBS/AP) -- Burning Man is the new owner of a hot property not far from the site of its annual counter-culture celebration.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that the Burning Man organization officially purchased the Fly Ranch on Friday for $6.5 million.

Organizers have been in pursuit of the 3,800-acre property for 20 years.

The ranch is about 21 miles north of Gerlach and several miles away from the area in the Black Rock Desert where the festival occurs.

Burning Man spokeswoman Megan Miller says the names of the donors who funded the purchase will be released next week.

Fly Ranch, home of the man-made Fly Geyser, has been closed to the public for the last several years.

Miller says it will be used for events and year-round gatherings.
