Do You See Blue Or Green? Survey Reveals Color Divide Over Swatch

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Remember the dress that divided the Internet last year? Some said it was black and blue, others gold and white.

It's happening again, only this time the split is over a swatch of color.

Is it blue or is it green?tricolor

Optical Express, a UK-based eyecare company, asked 1000 people to identify the color. At first, 64% said it was green and 32% said it was blue. When asked a second time to look at the swatch, but this time sandwiched between two blue swatches, 90% said it was green.

The survey results have set off another media-fueled color quandary in the UK, similar to last year's infamous dress.

"The vast majority were indeed correct," according to the company's website. "The shade is more green than blue."

Language also plays a huge part in color perception. Some observers choose turquoise, teal, and aqua to describe the shade, while the industrial name-choice would more likely be cyan.

Optical Express says the experiment shows "how our visual interpretations of the world around us can differ quite sharply."
