Alameda County Leaders Ban Fracking

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Alameda County leaders voted in favor of banning fracking Tuesday evening, making it the first county in the Bay Area, and the fifth county in California, to do so.

Karen White, with the Alameda County Against Fracking coalition, said she's relieved by the decision to ban hydraulic fracturing in the county.

"We've taken a step that will protect everyone in Alameda County, especially our children and grandchildren, from toxic chemicals," White said.

Santa Cruz County is among the counties that have already banned fracking, while Monterey County citizens will vote on a fracking ban on the November ballot.
