US Olympic Swim Team Takes Wheel For Carpool Karaoke Video

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) -- The U.S. swim team is singing again.

Led by Michael Phelps, the Americans have done a follow-up to their 2012 hit video in which the Olympians lip-synced to "Call Me Maybe."

This time, the swimmers did an extended video version of "Carpool Karaoke," mimicking the popular segment on James Corden's late-night TV talk show.

Phelps tweeted a link to the YouTube video, which had more than 300,000 views early Friday. The 18-time Olympic gold medalist takes a turn at the wheel, at one point answering a call from his mother, Debbie, and saying he can't talk because they're doing karaoke in the car.

The video begins with Elizabeth Beisel and Caleb Dressel clad in their suits and caps climbing into the car with teammates.

In another segment, Phelps asks, "Is anyone going to play music today?" and teammate Allison Schmitt turns on the radio. The video cuts to Missy Franklin and Maya DiRado hearing the opening notes of "Call Me Maybe." They look at each other and Franklin says, "Get it off."

Instead, she and DiRado, wearing backward ball caps, lead the other women in a finger-snapping version of Fifth Harmony's "BO$$." Longtime friends Phelps and Schmitt return later for some full-throated crooning of Zac Brown Band's "Chicken Fried," while their teammates hold up an American flag in the back seat. The song's lyrics include the verse, "I thank God for my life and for the stars and stripes."

Katie Ledecky and Anthony Ervin briefly share the front seat before Ledecky says, "I'm out. I don't feel safe driving four other Olympians."

Sprinter Simone Manuel sings a snippet of One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful."

The singing is interspersed with the swimmers interacting with people on the street and at a Chick-fil-A drive-through, where Ryan Lochte wonders aloud if there's a 2-for-1 special on the sauces.

The seven-minute video closes with the team singing a spirited version of the Miley Cyrus hit "Party in the U.S.A."

The video was filmed during the team's pre-Olympic training camp in Atlanta.
