Salinas Police Pursuit Ends With Crash Into Ice Cream Truck

SALINAS (CBS SF) -- One man was arrested after a vehicle pursuit that ended with a crash into an ice cream truck Thursday night in Salinas.

Police said Jose Martinez, 20, was arrested for the pursuit, according to police. It started at about 10:30 p.m. when officers patrolling Pacific Avenue saw a vehicle with four people inside commit a code violation.

The officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver fled, leading police on a pursuit.

The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed into a parked ice cream truck in the area of Preston Street.

The four occupants ran from the officers, but Martinez was taken into custody.

The three other men were not located.

Officers located a .38-caliber revolver that had been tossed into bushes by one of the men, police said.
