Shy Dog Abandoned Next To Dumpster Needs New Home

MILL VALLEY (CBS SF) -- A shy, abandoned poodle is looking for a new home. Someone left the little dog next to a dumpster in a Mill Valley shopping center.

A security guard found the frightened pup in a small, dirty carrier and called the Marin Human Society (MHS).

"The poor dog was filthy and his hair was incredibly matted. It had grown over his eyes, which were irritated and crusted," said MHS veterinarian Anne Miller. "Clearly, he had been neglected for some time."

The dog had no tags and wasn't microchipped.

The shelter has named him "Mozzarella," after the cheesy treat they used to coax him out of the carrier.

After a much needed bath, grooming and lots of TLC, Mozzarella "is learning to trust people again," according to the shelter and has become a favorite with the staffers.

The 2-year-old poodle mix is going to be neutered and vaccinated, and will be available for adoption.

Anyone interesting in adopting Mozzarella should call (415) 506-6225.
