Rumor Apple Will Get Behind The Curve With Next Year's iPhone 7 Display
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Rumor has it that Apple will be following in Samsung's footsteps when it releases its next generation of iPhones.
According to the Nikkei Asian Review, the iPhone 7 handset will have a curved display like its biggest competitor's top-of-the-line smartphones.
Sources told Nikkei the 7's curvy handset will measure 5-and-a-half inches or larger, and have a screen bent on two sides.
Samsung Electronics, the worlds's No. 1 smartphone supplier, has been selling curved-screen phones since 2013 and currently offers them on its Galaxy 7 Edge and Note 7.
Curved displays use organic light-emitting diode panels (OLED).
The flexible screens offer sharper color contrast. Manufacturers can use OLED to make displays that are curved, or even folded.
Right now Samsung Electronics has a tight lock on OLED technology. According to Nikkei, it will be Apple's sole OLED supplier when they begin manufacturing iPhone 7s with the new curvy design.
