Uber Educating Drivers On Sharing Road With Cyclists

KCBS_740 SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Uber is giving its San Francisco drivers special training on how to share the streets with cyclists.

To many cyclists, Uber is the enemy, while to many Uber drivers, bikes are a nuisance. Now, Uber is making its thousands of San Francisco drivers watch four training videos produced in conjunction with the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition.

"A lot of people who drive in San Francisco don't necessarily live here, and they're not used to the unique type of infrastructure we have here on our streets," Brian Wiedenmeier, Executive Director of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition told KCBS.

He thinks the training will be an effective way to achieve a common goal.

The videos teach drivers how to avoid 'dooring' a cyclist by opening a door in their path, and prevent the kinds of collisions that can often be deadly.

"The five most dangerous traffic behaviors on our streets - things that result in serious injury and fatalities - those behaviors are all related to people driving cars," Wiedenmeier said.
