Early Morning 3.8 Quake Strikes Mendocino County

MENDOCINO COUNTY (CBS SF) – Residents in Mendocino County were woken up by an early morning earthquake on Thursday.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the magnitude 3.8 quake struck at 5:57 a.m. about 8 miles west-southwest of the town of Laytonville, about 160 miles north of San Francisco. The epicenter was located about 17 miles northeast of Fort Bragg and 42 miles northwest of Ukiah.

Officials said the depth of earthquake was about half a mile.

Visitors to the USGS website from as far away as Cloverdale in Sonoma County said they felt the shaking.

There are no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
