PESCADERO (KPIX 5) — Three people were detained Sunday morning on the San Mateo County coast in connection with a suspected ocean drug smuggling scheme, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman said.

A U.S. Coast Guard crew saw a boat land at Año Nuevo State Park, located at 1 New Years Creek Road in Pescadero, and notified immigration and customs officials who sent agents to investigate, spokesman James Schwab said.

A Coast Guard crew had been tracking the boat before it landed. Customs agents and San Mateo County sheriff’s deputies responded and detained three people believed to be associated with the boat.

Schwab said no further information is available because the investigation is ongoing.
