Man Fatally Shot In Front Of His Castro Valley Home

CASTRO VALLEY (CBS SF) -- A man was murdered in a possible drive-by shooting in front of his home in unincorporated Castro Valley Monday evening, according to Alameda County Sheriff's deputies.

Multiple gunshots were reported in the 4100 block of Wilson Avenue, near Redwood Road, around 6 p.m.

Arriving deputies found the victim, identified only as a 37-year-old man, on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and being cared for by a friend who was administering CPR.

Medical personnel also responded, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sgt. Ray Kelly said the shooter fled, possibly in a vehicle, but no suspects have been identified and a motive for the shooting is not yet known.

"A crime of this magnitude is very uncommon in Castro Valley, especially in this particular neighborhood," Kelly said. "There's a lot of concern by not only the citizens, but the sheriff's office as well."

Detectives and the crime lab have responded to the scene, and deputies are canvassing the neighborhood looking for witnesses and video surveillance footage, according to Kelly.

"We're also trying to figure out a little more about our victim and see why someone would want to kill him," Kelly said.
