Idina Menzel Covers 'Wing Beneath My Wings' For 'Beaches' Trailer

By Amanda Wicks

(RADIO.COM) – Lifetime will be remaking the classic Bette Midler film Beaches, and viewers can finally see the new version's trailer with Idina Menzel lending her voice to the preview.

Menzel sings the hit single "Wind Beneath My Wings," which Midler originally recorded for the 1988 film. In Menzel's hands, the song works on a softer level, but still shines as a powerful rendition of the anthemic love song.

Besides singing the film's main song, Menzel also stars in the remake with Nia Long. Beaches follows the friendship of two young girls who meet on the Venice boardwalk and whose lives take them down different roads even while their bond holds strong.

Menzel held off on accepting the role for some time. Speaking with ET, she said, "I don't particularly like to choose projects where I have to walk in an icon's footsteps. I found though—after I said 'no' a bunch of times, because I was terrified—that there's a whole young audience that had never even heard of Beaches." If it seems like Midler would take issue with anyone stepping into her shoes, she shared her support in August. Midler tweeted how excited she was to see Menzel perform the part.

Beaches will premiere on Lifetime on January 21st at 8pm EST.
